Nigeria University Games Association(NUGA) Suspended Temporary

By Atungwu Matthew

The Nigeria University Games Association, NUGA, has temporary suspended the National University Games, which began on saturday at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, over technical hitches.

The NUGA Secretary-General, B.O. Orodele, who made this announcement in Makurdi, said that the action became necessary because both athletes and contingent officials have not been accredited as required by the guidelines of the Games.

Reacting to the hitches, the president of NUGA, Professor Stephen Hanafyelto of the University of Maiduguri, blamed the confusion on the ICT Unit of the association, which according to him defied his instructions over accreditation.

He alleged that the ICT refused to heed to his instructions on the procedure for the accreditation, preferring to deal with the Secretary-General, adding that if the problems were not solved before monday, they would have no option than to cancel the game.

The opening football match of the fiesta between the host institution and the Kaduna state university, sheduled to hold today has been postponed due to the confusion over accredited athletes, and no date has been fixed for the game and other subsequent soccer outings as at the time of filing this report.
