The news flying everywhere that governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has bought well over hundreds of wheelbarrows which will be supplied to Benue youths as part of his job creation strategy in the state is quite appalling and at the same time laughable.
Until now, there has been no official statement to as to why he bought wheelbarrows and branded them in his name.
While it's a welcome development that the governor has his youths at heart by distributing wheelbarrows to them, it's also worrisome that salaries of workers have not been paid, for some, up to a year. The level of poverty is on the increase, people cannot eat three square meals a day, parents are withdrawing their wards from schools and resorting to home tutorships carried out by the parents themselves. All this makes the wheelbarrow programme a laughable one.
I cannot categorically state why we are having wheelbarrows instead of basic infrastructure. These monies can go into scholarships, provision of portable water, good roads and what have you.
Let's wait and watch why our amiable and people's governor would buy wheelbarrows for the youths turning them to wheelbarrow pushers instead of education and decent employment opportunities or lucrative trades.
For wheelbarrows, Benue people are confused. Or are you not? ๐๐๐๐
Don't worry, whatever it is, I will bring you the full information about the wheelbarrow programme. For now, bye bye.
