The Executive Chairman, Benue State Universal Basic Education Board, Rev. Philip Tachin, PhD. has stressed the need for Benue Teachers to be computer literate as this will help them in conducting research that will increase and update their knowledge.
Rev. Tachin emphasized this yesterday at a ceremony in Makurdi to close a two-week Teacher Professional Development Workshop for Science and Mathematics Teachers which focused on Strengthening Mathematics And Science Education (SMASE).
The SUBEB Executive Chairman described the science teachers as indispensable actors in the New Benue Project, regarding them as the drivers of the scientific and technological revolution in the state and assured them that Government is committed to the enhancement of their welfare.
He expressed appreciation to the organizing team of facilitators led by Dr. Apeyuan David from College of Education Katrina ala for giving themselves to the success of the project and equally thanked Federal Ministry of Education, Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC and National Teachers Institutes for their various roles.
Delivering a good will message at the event, the representative of UBEC, Mr. Chidi Okoro who is the Desk Officer, Teacher Professional Development, North Central Nigeria said that UBEC is very interested and committed in the SMASE program and will continue to Promote it.
Mr. Okoro appreciated the Executive Chairman for his untiring efforts in Teacher Professional Development and thanked both the facilitators and participants for making the mandate of UBEC to be partly fulfilled through the workshop.
Responding on behalf of the participating teachers, Mr. Iornum Gwaza said that with the quantum of knowledge and skills they had acquired their two-week stay was not in vain.
He promised on behalf of his colleagues to apply the knowledge and skills they had acquired in improving the teaching and learning of science and mathematics and profusely thanked the Executive Chairman, UBEC, NTI, facilitators and organizing team for ensuring the workshop was successful.
In a vote of thanks, the Director Academic Services at the Board, Mr. Emmanuel Shima said they were grateful for cooperation received from the Executive Chairman, facilitators and participants and promised to improve on whatever shortcomings they might have encountered in the course of the workshop.
It will the recalled that the Executive Chairman had on Tuesday, 23rd May, 2017 declared open the workshop at Holy Ghost Catholic Church Hall in Makurdi.
