Benue State Government Declares one Week Prayer and Fasting over Herdsmen Crisis

The Benue State Executive Council has approved the declaration of seven days of prayer and fasting for God to intervene in the attacks on Benue communities by Fulani herdsmen.

The prayer and fasting period has been scheduled to commence on Friday, 17th and end on Thursday, 23rd March, 2017 from 6am to 6pm daily.

The Council, presided over by its Chairman, Governor Samuel Ortom, made the resolution today as an initiative to pray for peace in the land and seek divine wisdom in handling the herders/farmers crisis.

It also resolved to summon a stakeholders forum to deliberate on the crisis.

The Council condemned the invasion of Benue communities by armed herdsmen leading to the killing of innocent lives and destruction of property.

The Council reiterated its support to the State House of Assembly to conduct public hearings on the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Bill, Prohibition of Abduction, Kidnapping and Secret Cult Bill as well as the Road Traffic Authority Establishment Bill.
