Gov Ortom Nominated As Best Governor in Agriculture Development and Good Governance 2017

Business Day Media Limited has nominated Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom as the best performing Governor in Agriculture Development in the 2017 States Competitiveness and Good Governance Awards organized by the media company.

In a letter of notification written to Governor Ortom, the newspaper said,

"Your Excellency, this nomination by the Award Committee is in recognition of your agriculture-driven industrialisation policy, procurement of agricultural equipment, opening up of rural roads to facilitate the movement of agric produce from the rural areas to urban centres and most especially, the passage of Anti Open Grazing Law which is meant to protect the investments of small holder farmers across the state.

"In addition, we also recognise the pragmatic steps taken to diversify the Benue State economy away from over reliance on crude oil revenue. This explains why your administration has set in motion the processes that will fully exploit the potential in agriculture, infrastructure while improving the ease of doing business.
Therefore, your nomination for this award category by the Award Committee should been seen as a commendation of the giant strides you have taken so far and to encourage your administration to do more in this regard" the newspaper stated.

Available records indicate that the States Competitiveness and Good Governance Award was introduced by Business Day Media Limited to engender competition amongst state governments in the country so that Nigerians can get the real dividend of democracy. The state governors who have distinguished themselves are nominated for different award categories after an extensive research by Business Day Research and Intelligence Unit (BRIU).

The different award categories include Excellence in Agriculture Development, Excellence in Governance, Transparency in Governance, Best Governor in Urban and Rural Infrastructure Development, Best Governor in Education Development, Best Governor in Healthcare Development, Best State in ICT and the Best Governor in Tourism Development.

The 2017 Good Governance Awards dinner will take place on July 13, 2017 at the Prestigious Transcorp Hilton Hotels, Abuja.
