Ortom Urges Workers Not to Leave God's Way Because of Salaries

By: Okpeke Akor Godwin

Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, has advised workers in the state not to leave God's ways because of delay in the payment of salaries.

Giving the advice during a Church service at He Reigns Ministries opposite McCarthy Stadium, Makurdi, today, the governor also counseled workers and other citizens to wisely choose working for God so that they would be blessed.

While referring to Job 36 : Verses 11 and 12, the governor said there are provisions for God's blessings and curses for those who work in His ways and those that do not.

He sad it was for the purpose of inviting God to take over Benue that he dedicated the state to Him in May last year and added that things have not remained the same since then.

According to him, the security challenges are being tackled with kidnapping, killing and armed robbery reducing to the barest minimum.

He said about 34 states are not able to pay salaries and explained that sudden fall in oil prices and reduction in production occasioned by attacks on oil installations by Niger Delta Avengers increased the problem of salaries which he inherited from his predecessor.

He said in order to avoid roaming of students on the streets, his administration decided to put salaries of state university workers on fist line charge.

On the herdsmen/farmers clashes, Ortom said the state government has sufficiently explained its position on ranching to the whole world and observed that time has come for states and the Federal Government to put heads together to find a lasting locution to the perennial problem.

The governor who commended Bishop Ter Umah for nurturing He Reigns Ministries to its present stage, appreciated his parents for bringing him up in the fear of God.

Ortom said he grew up to see the family's growth n Christianity and promised to support the work being undertaken by the Church.

Earlier, Bishop Ter Umah had praised Governor Ortom for operating an open door policy which no governor ever practiced in Benue and noted that his commitment to the development of education was unparalleled.

Umah further stated that Ortom's reign has brought about the provision of N3 billion interest-free loan for small, medium and micro business owners and further maintained that the sharing of state's funds in the presence of labour leaders has made the people to have confidence in his administration.

He commended the governor for collaborating with the Church and explained that his visit at the time Christians are preparing for the celebration of Christ's resurrection shows that he is determined to put smiles on the faces of the people.
