Wife of Gov Ortom Empowers Over 1,000 Women, Youths in Two Years

Makurdi– Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF), the pet project of the Wife of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has empowered over one thousand Benue women and youth through various skills in the last two years.

Daniel Gbabo, Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Administration and ICT, Office of the Wife of the Governor, disclosed this while speaking to a group of newsmen in Makurdi last weekend.

He stated that the project has since inception trained and provided financial assistance to women, youth and the vulnerable most of who are now engaged in useful business ventures thus creating job opportunities for others in the process.
He further said that the First Lady of the state was also intervening in other key areas such as the provision of free medical treatment to the people as well as encouraging children in the area of basic education.

He added that preliminary work has commenced for the construction of an oncology centre in the state to cater for cancerous related ailments by the State Governor, Samuel Ortom.

Gbabo, who is also a member of the Benue State Economic Team, stressed the determination of the First Lady in ensuring the eradication of disease, hunger and idleness among women and youth in the state.

He urged those who have been touched through such programmes to strive hard to justify the resources expended amidst harsh economic conditions.

The SSA gave the Ortom administration a pat on the back saying it was doing its best given the prevailing financial condition in the state.

While he lauded the governor for accenting to the anti-open grazing bill passed by the Benue State House of Assembly in the mist of stiff opposition, he observed that the singular decision stands him out as one who would do all within his powers to ensure the protection of lives and property of his people.

Gbabo charged the people of the state particularly youth to jettison acts that are inimical to the development of the state such as fabrication and spreading of falsehood about the activities of government.
He advised they rather take advantage of the enabling environment that has been created to engage themselves into meaningful ventures that would enhance their wellbeing.

Recently the Wife of the Governor through the ESLF organised the First Benue Youth Entrepreneurship Summit which had over one thousand youth across the state as participants with the aim to building their entrepreneurship capacities towards ensuring self reliance.
