Gov Ortom |
By Charles Iornumbe
Governor Samuel Ortom has told his Rivers State counterpart, Nyelsom Wike that if state of emergency is to be declared in any state of the federation, that state is Rivers under the present administration.
Governor Ortom stated this in an interview with newsmen at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi against the backdrop of recent comments credited to Mr. Wike calling on the Federal Government to declare state of emergency in Benue on account of insecurity.
He said Rivers under the watch of Governor Wike has more cases of insecurity to attract emergency rule than Benue State.
Governor Ortom stressed that he has nothing personal against his Rivers State Counterpart, but was worried that a state Governor would be careless to make unguarded statements as Wike did.
He stated that he inherited some security challenges such as armed robbery and kidnapping which have reduced drastically due to his administration's unrelenting efforts in collaborating with the Presidency and security agencies.
Governor Ortom maintained that the Fulani herdsmen crisis which his government is effectively addressing is a common problem across the country and wondered why a colleague would want to take advantage of the situation to score cheap political points.
He wished Governor Wike well.
