Benue APC Releases Time-Table For Local Government Primaries


Ahead of Local Government elections, scheduled to hold on the 3rd June, 2017, the State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress,APC, Benue state presided over by the state chairman, Comrade Abba Yaro today approved the Time table of its activities as follows:

1: 3rd April, 2017--- Inauguration of screening committee.

2: 6th - 8th April, 2017----Screening Excercise commences.

3: 10th - 11th April, 2017-- Appeals from the screening committee.

4: 17th April, 2017, ---------Councilorship Primaries.

5: 20th April, 2017----- Chairmanship Primaries.

6: 24th- 25th, 2017------Appeals arising from the conduct of the Councilorship and chairmanship primaries.

7: 26th April, 2017-------submission of nominated candidates to Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).

Also in the meeting, the committee approved the 20th April, 2017, as the date for the election of National Delegates for the forthcoming National Convention of the party. The council stated that the decision to fix the date on the date of its chairmanship primaries was to allow members of the party who will converge in their respective Local Government headquarters for the nomination excercise, to also nominate delegates the convention. The party's constitution allows three (3) delegates per Local Government for the convention.

The committee also reverted the suspension of Mr. Ornguga Mgbajime, the Ward chairman of Mbawa Council Ward of Guma Local Government area, stating that the suspension does not conformed with the party's constitution, therefore it is illegal. Its then directed that Mr. Mgbajime should resume his duty with immediate effect.

Other issues determined in today's meeting included; those who are eligible to participate in both the Councilorship and chairmanship primary elections.

The council resolved that, based on the party's constitution, those who are eligible to vote in the Councilorship primary election are all the registered and card carrying members of the party in the state;

Meanwhile those eligible to vote in the chairmanship primaries are ; all members of the state Executive committee of the the party, all Local Government EXCO of the party, the governor and his deputy, all the Ward EXCO of the party and all serving National and State House of Assembly members of the party.
